Argan Oil in Capsules

Using Argan Oil in Capsules for a Health Supplement

What are the Benefits of Argan Oil for Health?

There is currently a lot being written about Argan Oil Capsules on the internet.
As you will have read on this site Argan Oil comes in two varieties. Cosmetic Argan Oil for Skin and Hair or Culinary Argan Oil for eating, cooking and using in recipes.

A lot of discussion has been around the benefits of cosmetic Argan Oil for skin conditions such as Eczema,Psoriasis and general dry skin problems – as well as the Anti Ageing benefits of this nutrient rich natural oil.
However, Culinary Argan Oil has also been used for its health benefits including cholesterol reduction, anti-inflammatory saponins of benefit in Arthritis Treatments and possible anti-cancer properties.

Much detailed information is available on this an other web sites so this and the other health uses will not be covered in any detail here.

The components causing interest in Argan Oil for use in capsules are:
TRIGLYCERIDES, Gamma Linoleic Acid – ( GLA) FATTY ACIDS OF ARGAN OIL, TRITERPENE ALCOHOLS,
METHYL STEROLS, STEROLS, VITAMIN E, Arganine, CAROTENOIDS, SQUALENE & PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS

However, while culinary and cosmetic Argan Oil are rich in these healthy components ( Argan Oil contains twice the Vitamin E Anti Oxidant and GLA content of Olive Oil ) we do not think that the tiny amours of Argan Oil in a capsule would give any noticeable benefit.

Some capsules are advertised as Argan Powder. We have never seen this in Morocco and would not even know what you would create this from. In this case we would recommend you get a certified analysis of the content of these capsules.

I doubt that the amount of oil contained in a capsules would be of any benefit and any Argan “powder” whatever that might be is unlikely to have much of any of the benefits and nutrients of Argan Oil.

Should you wish to try Argan Oil for a health supplement we can tell you that a typical use in Morocco would be 1 to 2 Table spoons of Eating, Culinary Argan Oil per day. Please look for our other Articles on Argan Oil for Arthritis for additional details.

If you would like to use Argan Oil long term in this way please look at our current special offer on 400ml culinary Argan Oil twin pack on the home page at www.arganoildirect.com.
We believe that Culinary Argan Oil in the diet would be the easiest and tastiest way to try the benefits of this healthy oil.

About Argan Oil & Natural Oils for Skin & for Hair

About Argan Oil & Natural Oils for Skin & for Hair

The traditional use of natural oils in cosmetics in ancient societies

How to use Argan Oil with other natural oils for skin and for hair

Across the world every ancient society has discovered the benefits of using natural oils like Argan Oil Morocco, for for skin care and for hair.
Long before the chemical products we see advertised today took over our skin care organic natural oils, like Argan Oil, rich in nutrients and complexes that benefit and work with our skin were used. These product are still used today by many traditional peoples and it is only now that people in the “more advanced” regions are learning the benefits of using natural products.
In ancient tribes and civilisations children, used to look up to and respect their elders. In native American tribes, like , many others around the world, if ever there was a problem then they would turn to the wise person of the village. Because that person had learnt from their predecessors what to do based on proven results. And their word was respected because what they said was the truth.
Unfortunately in our “modern societies” the TV and advertising machine who try to put themselves up as our advisors tell us nothing but misleading or downright false information just to get us to give them our money.
But “you can not fool all of the people all of the time” and many are now realising that natural products have been used for centuries because, like the wise elders if the village, their effectiveness has been proved by the passing on of knowledge across centuries. As for the big cosmetics companies we only have their word backed up by a few highly paid celebrities that their products work. But then if something really worked you would hear about it from friends of friends? The finest qulaity products are not advertised.
So, if you are interested in trying the benefits of Argan oil or learing about Argan oil you may also want to read up on other natural oils for skin and for hair that may also be of benefit to you.
Argan Oil makes the best base for combining any of these exotic oils to produce you own personal skin care formula. The benfit of using Argan Oil for a base to combine these oils is that it some of them can be quite strong in their effect, their smell or the oily residue they leave on the skin. This means they are not the ideal natural oil to use for skin care. However, Argan Oil will bind quickly and easily with other oils to produce a wonderful skin care moisturise or hair care treatment.

Amlou

makes about 2 cups

Amlou ( also spelled amalou ) – is a delicious Moroccan dip made from Culinary Argan Oil toasted almonds and honey.
Argan Oil is ground together with roasted almonds and honey to be used as a dip eating with a strong bread.

Amlou spread is fairly easy to make if you have a mortar and pestle. Although the prefered traditional method for crushing the almonds is a circular grind-stone.

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups (6 oz. or 200 g) almonds
3/4 cup (180 ml) Culinary Argan Oil
3 to 4 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt

Preparation
Preheat your oven to 375° F (190° C). Rost your almonds on a baking tray about 10 minutes until a lightly browned and crunchy but not burnt.

Allow the almonds to cool and then grind them to a powdery paste with a pestle or food processor.
Gradually stir the Culinary Argan Oil in with the almonds in a very slow trickle and blend. You can Adjust the amount of oil to your own preference.

Gradually add the warm honey, sugar and salt and continue to blend.

Amlou is usually served on a small plate and eaten with a good quality bread.
Please see our video on how to make a genuine Moroccan Berber Bread loaf.

Vermicelli Desert with Almonds, Cinnamon & Eating Argan Oil Recipe

4 servings

Tastes is a wonderful traditional Berber sweet. Goes perfectly with mint tea or with coffee as an afternoon treat. Makes sure you have a good quality cinnamon spice powder with a good smell as much of the “supermarket” cinnamon has little flavour or smell.

Ingredients
250g/9oz Vermicelli ( Angel Hair ) pasta
¼ teaspoon of salt
2-3 Tablespoon of Argan Oil
60g( 2oz) of butter
50g (1 ¾ ) flaked Almonds
80g (3oz) icing (powder ) sugar
1 tablespoon good quality cinnamon spice powder

Preparation
Put on some boiling water and prepare the Vermicelli by steaming until soft.
Meanwhile, lightly roast the Almonds in a frying pan ( no oil ) until light brown. Leave to cool then crush the flakes until quite fine. You could alternatively roast while Almonds and then crush.

Once cooked and drained add the butter and to the Vermicelli and enough tablespoons of Argan Oil to flavour.
Place the vermicelli on a plate in a dome then make a cross on top of the vermicelli using a generous amount of cinnamon power. Do the same with icing sugar, and again with the crushed Almonds.
I always have have plenty of additional crushed Almond, Icing sugar and cinnamon to add.
As you go simply mix in some icing sugar, almonds & cinnamon.

Tarraht Salad – Roasted Goats Cheese with Almond and Culinary Argan Oil

Serves 2

This has to be one of our all time favourite salads.

Simple, sophisticated and delicious.
Even if you think you don’t like goats cheese give this a try I am sure you’ll love it!

There seem to be two types of Goats Cheese that can be used. One, which has an outer skin, when grilled, goes translucent, yellow-ish and melts. The other is usually whiter, and a little oily and has no crust/skin. This type of goats cheese , sometimes labelled – “fromage chevre doux”, does not melt but grills nicely retaining a crumbly texture and good flavour. Both types of cheese are ok. You can buy the cheese in “rounds” about 40mm( 1.5”) x 10mm thick. Allow about 3 pieces per person. You may need to speak to your cheese supplier to check which is which.

Ingredients
Lettuce & Rocket Salad
Red Onion
Cherry Tomatoes – 6
Goat Cheese – 6 – 40mm( 1.5”) x 10mm thick “rounds” of goat cheese. ( use more or less as you prefer)
Honey – 6 teaspoons
Pine Nuts or if not available Flaked Almonds are almost as good
Bread – ideally a baguette style bread – cut into 1cm thick rounds about 50mm in diameter – average 3 per person for a salad
150ml – 200 ml Balsamic Vinegar ( optional dressing )
Culinary Argan Oil – 12 teaspoons ( 2 teaspoons per goat cheese )

Preparation
Create a green salad with the lettuce, rocket salad leaves including a finely sliced Red Onion and a few cherry tomatoes.

Cut 6 slices of baguette, about 1 to 2 cm thick. You can cut circles or squares of a sliced flat bread if a baguette style bread is not available.
Lightly toast the bread on both sides. After toasting pour 1 teaspoon of Argan Oil on each slice of bread. Then place one cheese “round” on each slice of bread. The cheese should sit inside the bread with some space around it. Place the bread and cheese slices under a grill at around 190C/370F. We are going to grill the goat cheese until just slightly hard / dry on the outside with slightly brown edges. About 5 to 10 minutes.

Next prepare the topping for the goat cheese, which we will spoon on to the cheese later. Mix 6 teaspoons of Argan Oil ( 1 per cheese ) with 6 teaspoons of a Honey. Add 6 teaspoons of pine nuts ( or lightly pan roasted almonds ). mix this well and leave to one side.

Next, make a dressing for the salad. You can use a light salad dressing or a rich Balsamic Reduction. If using the Balsamic Reduction watchout that the salad does not become over sweetened! Pour 100ml of Balsamic Vinegar into a pan. Boil, reduce heat and simmer until it has reduced to half the original volume – or less. The vinegar should change into a sweet rich sauce. To thicken and sweeten the sauce you can add some brown sugar. To test the dressing is ready. While reducing, take a teaspoon of the dressing and place a drop on a cold saucer. The dressing should be thick and rich but still liquid like honey – not runny like vinegar. If you add too much sugar or over reduce then the dressing will solidify into a jam – and you’ll have to start again!
Once the cheese has been lightly grilled, just going brown around the edges, remove it from the oven. Put 1 teaspoon of our topping spread over each goat cheese and then put back under the grill for about 5 minutes until the honey has melted and thickened slightly. DO NOT let the honey burn!
Finally, spoon you balsamic reduction dressing in lines over the salad then place the three toasted bread/ goat cheese slices on top.

Collagen Boosting – the Benefits of Argan Oil and Topical Vitamin C

Boost and protect collagen with topical vitamin C and Argan Oil for firmer skin

The Benefits of Topical Vitamin C with Argan Oil for skin

How to use Topical Vitamin C and Argan Oil to boost and protect your collagen levels for firmer skin

Revitalize Ageing Skin with Topical Vitamin C and Argan Oil

Overexposure to sun accelerates skin ageing by degrading collagen and triggering oxidative stress in the skin.
Results from clinical trials show that when applied topically, vitamin C promotes collagen formation and challenges the effects of free radicals, helping maintain firm and youthful skin.

The benefits of applying topical vitmains C work in a similar way to the benefits of Argan Oil

These time-honored natural remedies were used by ancient civilizations to heal skin can help overcome these effects.
In Tibet women would rub sea buckthorn on their face and hands. Native Americans made a vitamin C-rich paste out of rose petals to moisten and heal their skin
Many common plants and herbs contain such as rose hips, sea buckthorn, and other fruits contain very high vitamin c levels that give them their potent skin-rejuvenating powers.

Overall, the amount of collagen in the skin tends to decline with age, an ongoing process that is accelerated by a number of factors like sunlight, smoking, free radicals, and inflammation. As the synthesis of new collagen slows down, topical vitamin C is one of the most effective ways to boost collagen synthesis and slow its degradation.

While oral supplementation with vitamin C is important for maintaining one’s overall health, it is not very effective at increasing skin concentrations of vitamin C because its absorption is limited by active transport mechanisms in the gut. The most effective method for replenishing vitamin C in the skin is therefore to go straight to the source, and apply it directly to the skin.

Collagen constitutes more than a third of all protein in the body and about 75% of the skin.12 From our bones and teeth to blood vessels and cartilage, collagen is the main connective tissue that holds us together.
What makes collagen a sort of supermolecule, however, is its three-dimensional triple helix architecture. No wonder the tensile strength of collagen is greater than steel wire of the same weight. Understandably, the making of such a complex structure as collagen can only be accomplished in several steps. And vitamin C is involved in every one of them.

clinical trials
Several clinical trials have discovered that topical vitamin C provides beneficial effects on aged and photodamaged skin. A placebo-controlled study performed in 25 volunteers showed that those who topically applied a topical formulation of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) experienced a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles in aged skin after a relatively short time period of 12 weeks.
Other studies have substantiated these benefits and over a three-month double-blind study in 19 patients with moderately photodamaged facial skin patients discovered a significant improvement in fine wrinkling, roughness, skin tone, and sallowness on the side treated with ascorbic acid compared with the control side. Photo assessment uncovered a 57.9% improvement in vitamin C-treated patients compared with the control group.
Besides its uses in photorejuvenation, vitamin C has also been shown to be of benefit in patients with acne, both helping to prevent and diminish acne lesions.

In addition to all this, topical vitamin C can reverse yet another aspect of skin aging: age spots (or lenti-gines).These dark areas are where UV-induced oxidation causes melanin to pool in the upper layers of the skin.

How to use Argan Oil and topical Vitamin C to protect your skin

Vitamin C is not only necessary for collagen production and maintenance, but it is also a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals in the skin. So, topical vitamin C works to boost the anti oxidant effect of the ultra high Vitamin-E levels in Argan Oil. But why is protection against free radical damages and why are anti oxidants in Vitamins and Argan oil so important?

Free radicals are atoms or molecules that are very chemically reactive due to missing an electron – a negatively charges particle in the nucleus of an atom. Because of this, their destructive power is concentrated in the place where they are created, which is mostly in the cells’ mitochondria – within cells in your body or on the surface of the skin.
Free radicals seek opportunities to complete their odd electron. So, they will attack any nearby chemical compounds including chemical compounds that are involved in important reactions in your body, or even a part of a DNA molecule. As a result, the damage left behind can leave damaged cells throughout the body, such as in heart muscle cells, nerve cells, and the skin.

The anti oxidant, free radical dmagaes the collagen by stealing an electron from one of the proteins in a strand of collagen. This causes a change in the chemical structure of the collagen at that point, creating a tiny break in the strand. Once a bundle of collagen has multiple points of damage that occur over the years, it becomes damaged and disorganized. As a result, our skin begins to get that familar sag and wrinkled effect.

Although our skin naturally has cellular enzymes and other metabolic processes to deal with this oxidative damage, ageing and environmental stresses like sunlight, smoking, and pollution, can eventually overpower these protective controls. One of our Argan Oil based products, Sahara Gold, was formulated with a natural skin repairing oil which combats UV sun damage as it occurs.

Applying a antioxidant like vitamin C in combination with Argan Oil which is also rich in anti oxidants, Vitamin and Linoleic Fatty Acid ( G.L.A.), is a very effective way to boost the skin’s natural protection against age-causing free radicals over the long term.

Eczema, Acne Psorisis and Dry Skin Conditions

Difficult skin conditions such as these often benefit from Argan Oil skin care. In such cases it may be beneficial to take the eating for of the oil in combination with the external use of the oil. Note that oils very often generate a “heat” like effect on the skin. Our feedback suggests that the oil is effective if used on an eczema condition when the skin is starting to heal and is unbroken. If the skin is cracked or red the external application of the oil may not prove helpful.
