What is tanning oil?

 

Traditional tanning oil is an oil based skin care product that lets you tan faster. As a skin care product it is applied to the skin during sunbathing or when using a sunbed.Tanning oil will typically contain ingredients such as Coconut oil, Olive Oil or Almond Oil.

 

Users should be aware that these products are usually have a zero spf value.

 

 

The Tanning Process

We have two layers to our skin the epidermis (the outer layer) and the dermis (the inner layer) which gives the skin its tanned appearence. There are two methods by which tanning oil work: either by increasing the production of the melanin which gives skin its color or by speeding up the blood flow to bring melanin to the bottom to top layer of the skin.

The main benefits of tanning oil is of course that you are able to get a sun tan quicker. This means less UV exposure is necessary to get the sun tan that you want.Tanning oil will also improve the" colour of your tan depending on the oils used. Depending on the tanning oil skin treament formula there will also be oil componets that lock in moisture leaving skin feeling more comfortable. This may also account for the better colour and speed of the tan.

 

With the increased popularity of tanning oil new formulas containing other herb and vitamin extracts have been developed. To improve the skin care properties natural extracts such as aloe vera,cocoa butter, eucalyptus oil.

 

However, as usual, 99.9% of these tanning oils that try to sound like natural products, actually contain a long list of chemicals that are know to have possible side effects when in a skin treatment.
